Olivia Scott, Staff Writer

Some Americans love their pumpkin spice lattes but sometimes we wonder why this pumpkin-flavored drink is so popular, well, why are they popular? how did they become popular? How are they even made? Well, pumpkin spice is made out of a sweet blend of ginger and nutmeg, that sounds delicious! that’s not all, cinnamon and even allspice were also used to make pumpkin spice was created in 1934 by the McCormick company and introduced as a blend to customers who wanted to buy all four spices needed to make pumpkin pie. Pumpkin spice lattes are very popular around the Thanksgiving season, but pumpkin pie takes the crown of the Thanksgiving Tradition. Did you know that pumpkin spice was invented by a Stanford University Athlete when he walked in a Starbucks in 2001 and in 2003 he was asked to create a new popular fall coffee known as the pumpkin spice latte which a ton of us Americans know and love today. Let’s think about it if we didn’t have thanksgiving pumpkin spice lattes would probably not be a thing today and maybe even Starbucks wouldn’t be a popular coffee shop where all the basic white girls squeal over their white bean Mocha Frappuccinos and Carmel lattes that we all love. Starbucks has sold over 200 million pumpkin spice lattes over the past 11 years now that is insane. in 2018 Starbuck’s earliest release date ever recorded was August 28 this shows how much we Americans love this pumpkin-flavored drink that was based on the traditional sweet and classic dessert that we call pumpkin pie.
